Just a sad boy in a dress

Anybody see Ralphie here? All he needs is an Orphan Annie Decoder ring!
Who needs a Gap Tee with fashion options like these?
Seriously Danny. It has to come out. Grandma will be very careful!
C'mon son. It's all crooked and the Tooth Fairy wont want it if it turns yellow!
Good Job Ralphie! Now about that dress . . .

Hump Day!

This is probably the highlight of my week. I was taking the deposit to the bank from work today and decided to real quick like make a stop at Chevron for a tasty Pessi! I take my precious soda to the counter and the clerk is on her cell phone. She tells the caller to hang on and sets the phone on the counter. While she's ringing me up she asks me, oh yeah she is a big, young, African American gal, with a great talent for gab. So she asks me all huffy like,"have you ever heard of a hump day?" I enjoyed a great dirty laugh on the inside because I am secretly a 12 year old boy, but I answered, "Why sure. It's Wednesday." The clerk picks up her phone and says, "She knows what a hump day is." She sets the phone down and says to me, "Yesterday I was riding down the road with my Mama and we see this sign at a restaurant that says "Happy Hump Day Lunch Specials" and I say to my Mama "I caint believe those Mormons would allow that kind of a sign out on the streets. Why I'm sure they just up in arms over it. My Momma said that there was nothin' wrong with the sign. I said nothing wrong? Well she ask me what I thought hump day was and I just figured it must be the day when everybody humps but why would they put it on a sign here in Utah?" I was laughing so hard that my blessed Pepsi nearly came out of my nose. So, going back to my inner 12 year old boy, does anyone remember how Matt Earl used to call everyone humpers? It didn't matter if you were holding hands, or even just dancing? Good times . . .

Another Daily Danny

At dinner tonight Danny was admiring the blue scrubs I had on from working today. He looked at me so lovingly and said, (Don't forget the Pollyanna kid voice) "Mom, I love your scrubs. They look so cute. You should go on Biggest Loser and maybe they would give you scrubs that say Biggest Loser." Yep, that's me...the biggest LOSER! Love this kid!

Daily Danny

I was just up here reading Angie's hilarious post about her son wanting to be a UPS man for Halloween when Danny comes upstairs. . . It's helpful when reading about Danny if you picture the kid from Old Yeller, Swiss Family Robinson, and Pollyanna and remember his high voice Danny: Mom come and see what's on TV. You promised! Mom: When did I promise? D: It's the Brownie Pan!! C'mon you promised. B: Okay...Wow that's really cool (thinking to myself what the heck is so cool about a brownie pan?) So we watch the the little mini-infomercial about the Brownie Pan. D: Mom, do you think if Grandma got all her money, you got all your money, Brady got all his money, and I got all my money it would be $19.95? This child loves infomercials. It's a good thing we don't have QVC. He's never leave the family room.

Bad Things Happen in Threes...Hogwash!

or as Grandpa Dick would say, "Buckatally!!" 1. Our washer died 2. Our van was broken into and my purses stolen 3. Garage Door breaks 4. Our FURNACE breaks and every time we plug in a space heater it blows a breaker!!! Let's play a little game I like to call Fortunately, Unfortunately... ~Fortunately, we were able to run extension chords to the space heaters from the few plugs that didn't blow the breakers. ~Unfortunately, when walking to the bathroom in the dark, in the middle of the night, with your eyes closed, it's possible to trip on the chord, fall into the bathroom door, slam it into the wall, and scare the bejeezez out of your innocent, sleeping husband (not saying this happened or anything ;-) ~Fortunately, he probably doesn't remember ~Unfortunately, we need to fix our furnace, and perhaps a dent in the bathroom wall behind the door. . . ~Fortunately, my dad may be able to help us (with the furnace) ~Unfortunately, the money for the girls show choir dresses is past due ~Fortunately, they have an amazing Aunt and Uncle in St. Louis ~Unfortunately, we are out of bread ~Fortunately, I know how to make bread and it is on the counter raising even now!! ~Fortunately, we were able to use the last of the tomatoes from our garden and bottle 16 quarts of Demarees amazing salsa!!! ~Fortunately, I was able to do all our laundry at my Mom's yesterday. ~Fortunately, we have food storage! ~Fortunately, the furnace broke AFTER Natty's birthday. . . Fortunately it is STILL a great, and exciting life!

Happy Birthday Natty!

Well today Natalie is 14 years old. I remember perfectly the day she was born. I went to the Doctors office for my weekly exam and Dr. Macy told me that I was dilated to a four. She said the baby would probably come in the next week but she would be out of town starting Wednesday (it was Monday.) She asked if I wanted to be induced and have her deliver the baby tomorrow, or let it come naturally and likely have some other doctor do the delivery. I had been seeing DR. Macy since I was 12 years old and I wanted her to do it so I opted for inducement. She had her assistant call the hospital to set it up for Wednesday morning but there were no openings. There were also no openings Tuesday. But there was an opening for that day. So I got in the car ALONE and drove myself to the hospital and cried all the way. I was a terrified 19 year old girl. I called my Dad on the cell phone and he went to track down Derek. Derek was in mandatory training classes for Boeing (back then it was McDonnell Douglas.) He was trying to get hired but, back then, you had to take the 6 week training and then pass a test. So I checked in to Holy Cross Hospital and they sent me up to the maternity ward. However I just sat down in the waiting room and waited for Derek to get there. Natalie Joyce Fish was born at 6:49 pm 8 lbs 3 oz 19 inches long Named after two of the best examples from the first 19 years of my life: Natalie Hansen and my Grandma Joyce Bezzant. She has been a joy from the moment she was born. She is the easiest kid to parent. She knows what's right and she does it. She loves school and does great there. She is a self-proclaimed over achiever. She's a straight A student. She is a wonderful sister. She loves her siblings. She loves her two best friends. She has a beautiful testimony of the Gospel. She is a wonderful example to me. She is just a very delightful person to associate with!! We are very blessed to have her in our lives. Happy Birthday Natty Jo!

Pay It Forward

We have been so blessed the past week that I just have to share some of our experiences. . . I called Lolly's piano teacher Monday to ask if we could pay next week and explained our burglary. She said she was so sorry and refused to let us pay for September!! Insurance covered the window replacement 100% and they came within two hours of my call! Derek's co-worker had a garage door opener and unit that he wasn't using and offered it to us. When Derek tried to pay him he said no way!! My sweet friend Heather treated me to lunch at work Tuesday. Most of my blood work results came back and there are no major problems. The rest of the results are expected next week. Brady doesn't have the swine flu!! Only strep throat! My Mom did ALL of my laundry Tuesday while I was at work!! Then she did sheets yesterday while I was at work!!! I went to the store to buy a new wallet and they had the very same style as my old one that was stolen!! We paid off a small debt and now we only have house and car for debt!!! I got my replacement drivers license and Costco card and my new debit card is on the way. We are truly blessed. I have this idea rolling around in my head because I want to teach our children that trials and blessings are a part of life. When we go through trials, blessings are sure to follow (really we are always blessed even while we experience trials.) But I feel that gratitude and humility are so essential in Heavenly Fathers plan. So I have been trying to come up with some sort of service activity we can perform as a family to show our gratitude for the blessings in our life. It can be several smaller things or one big thing. I just want our children to learn to what it means to "pay it forward." Please give your suggestions and I'll let you know the outcome. It's a beautiful life!!!
